Normand Johnson, 93, of Baxter Street in Pawtucket, passed away very peacefully, surrounded by his loving family after a long but courageous struggle with cancer on Wednesday, August 16th 2017. He was under the kind and supportive care of Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI and the wonderful staff of Orchard View Manor Nursing Home of East Providence.

Throughout his life he enjoyed music, especially jazz, as well as sports in any form, especially football, baseball and tennis which he played in his later years. He will be remembered for his quiet and generous way, his quick and witty sense of humor, and his unconditional love of family and friends.

He was the husband of the late Germaine B. (Cadoret) Johnson. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Antonia (St.Pierre) Johnson and was a lifetime Rhode Island resident.

Normand served honorably in the US Navy during WWII aboard the communication ship USS Mt. McKinley and upon his return home he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Bryant College and then continued his service to the country and retired as the Chief of Accounting at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Providence. Normand was avid sports fan all his life enjoying Red Sox games, and playing tennis.

He is survived by daughters Norma Jean Johnson of Woonsocket, Carol Johnson of Pawtucket, Lori Brunner of Switzerland, granddaughters Sarah and Rebecca Brunner, and also a niece and nephew. He was the brother of the late Gloria Tormey.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:00am from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux and Son, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive, Seekonk at 9:00am. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Rhode Island 1085 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904 would be appreciated.
