Robert J. Labonte, Providence County Sheriff - Retired, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Thompson) Labonte until her death in 2008.

Mr. Labonte was a member of the Howard Rogers Post # 25, the Ryan post #33, and the Dusza Almeida Post. He was also a 50 year member of the Mason’s, a Shriner and a member of the Retired Sheriff Association. He was a proud veteran of the USAF and a member of the greatest generation.

He leaves his devoted daughters Deborah Garay of Pawtucket and Donna Simmons of Springtown, TX, a sister, Cecile Simano of Warwick, four grandchildren, Gloria, Nadine, Jose, and Nicole, and eight great-grandchildren, Zaria, Jalen, Sincere, Jaleah, Julianna, Lola, Robert “RJ” and Denali. He was the Father of the late Brian Labonte and brother of the late Germaine Jones, Flora LaRock, Rita Thrasher, Leo, Eugene, Samuel, Thomas, Joseph Rene, Hector, Alfred, and Norman Labonte.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday May 4th at 10 a.m. from the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux & Son 1042 Newport Avenue Pawtucket. Calling Hours will be held the morning of the Funeral from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.

Donations in his memory to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
